Director of Debates, Braver Angels

Role Description
This is a fully remote position that requires travel. This position is responsible for providing leadership and strategic planning to grow and develop the Braver Angels Debate Program. This Director also manages the Debate Team, oversees Braver Angels' work in the College Debate and Discourse Alliance, and contributes to Braver Angels' overall programming innovation pipeline.
Specific Responsibilities:
Personnel Management
- Analyze program personnel needs and develop a strategy for staffing with appropriate balance between paid employees and volunteers
- Oversee volunteer recruitment process
- Lead tactical and strategic meetings of the Debate Team staff and key volunteers, ensuring effective
- communication and collaboration amongst all Debate
Team members
Debate Training & Quality Control
- Develop and enforce standards for BA debates to ensure the program advances the organization's mission
- Oversee development of training programs and assist in conducting trainings as appropriate
- Develop appropriate metrics for measuring Debate Program impact and develop strategy to improve metrics over time.
Program Development & Delivery
- Provide strategic direction, working with Debate Team staff to develop new programs in line with program and organizational goals
- Participate on the CD&D Steering Committee as representative of Braver Angels
Marketing & Communications
- Work with internal BA partners on messaging initiatives and devise plans to reach appropriate new audiences. Speak and write on behalf of the program for internal and external publication
- Oversee production of regular Debate Newsletter for volunteers
Partnerships & Outreach
- Oversee team involvement in internal and external partnerships that advance strategic goals of the program and the organization
- Develop and enrich internal collaboration with other teams (e.g., Braver Politics, National Initiatives, etc.)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- At least two years of relevant work or volunteer experience
- Experience with Braver Angels Debates, Passion for bringing Americans together to decrease polarization
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated capacity for leadership
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
- Ability to work from home; willingness to occasionally travel for organization events
- Familiarity with common online platforms, i.e. Google Workspace, Zoom, etc
